Public Advisory: Residents Reminded About Dangers of Spring Grass Burning

  • Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture

March 25, 2021

Residents are reminded about the dangers associated with spring grass burning. Extreme caution should be exercised as grass fires burn hot and fast, and can spread quickly. There have been two reported grass fires in the province so far this week.

People should also be aware that burning grass in the spring is a destructive and dangerous practice which increases the risks associated with wildland fires. Additional information regarding spring grass burning is available on the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture website.

Individuals are reminded they can be liable for costs incurred by the department in fighting forest fires and or grass fires. To report a wildfire, please call the provincial forest fire reporting line toll-free at 1-866-709-FIRE (3473).
