A rebranded webpage dedicated to the protection of Newfoundland and Labrador’s natural resources was launched today by the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture at www.stoppoaching.ca. This initiative supports the Provincial Government’s commitment to enhancing and modernizing the delivery of wildlife conservation and resource enforcement services.
The webpage provides the public with the opportunity to easily report information on suspected illegal activity negatively impacting wildlife, the environment and natural landscapes. The site also includes a list of office locations, forms for filing complaints and commendations, as well as information on how to arrange outreach and educational opportunities for schools and community groups.
In March 2020, the department created a new Resource Enforcement Division which consolidated all enforcement personnel within one division. This restructuring has resulted in over 90 highly-trained Resource Enforcement Officers now authorized to enforce environmental protection legislation and a broad range of statutes related to forestry, wildlife, endangered species, wilderness and ecological reserves, inland fisheries, animal health and protection, water resources, illegal dumping as well as motorized snow vehicles and all-terrain vehicles.
In addition to the Stop Poaching site, the public can also still anonymously report suspected illegal by contacting the Resource Enforcement Division toll free, 24/7 at 1-877-820-0999.
Quote
“It is so important that we take all possible measures to prevent poaching and protect our wildlife and natural environment for current and future generations. The public plays a crucial role in this effort. I encourage anyone with information regarding poaching activity and other violations to avail of this new user-friendly webpage to report details for further investigation by officers.”
