Record Number of Community FireSmart Grants Awarded

The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture is pleased to announce that 19 municipalities and community groups throughout Newfoundland and Labrador have been awarded funding under the FireSmart Canada Community Grant Program – the highest number ever awarded in the province, exceeding the previous high of 12 grants awarded in 2019.

The grants, each valued at $500, help fund local projects aimed at reducing the risk of wildfire damage in and around communities.

Wildfire professionals work with grant recipients to employ preventative measures to reduce the threat to homes and property. Activities focus on FireSmart awareness and education, and include demonstrations on how to safely store firewood and organizing neighborhood clean ups to remove combustible materials like dry leaves from properties.
