Public Advisory: Residents Reminded Not to Feed Foxes

May 4, 2021

Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture officials are advising the public to avoid feeding and handling wild foxes. Conservation Officers have responded to several reports recently where foxes have become accustomed to being fed by the public, resulting in unwanted encounters with property and pets.

Wildlife is best left undisturbed in their natural surroundings, as they can be extremely dangerous and unpredictable when approached. The feeding of any wildlife, including foxes may also create a public safety hazard and lead to the destruction of the animal.

Conservation Officers will only handle wildlife if there is a public safety concern or circumstances warrant an animal’s removal.

Anyone encountering what they believe to be an aggressive animal are encouraged to contact their local Forestry and Wildlife district office.
