The motoring public is reminded to exercise caution when travelling the Northern Peninsula on roadways located between the St. Anthony Airport and Eddies Cove, the St. Anthony Airport and the Town of Main Brook, and the road leading to Cook’s Harbour.

A significant portion of the St. Anthony caribou herd overwintered in the vicinity and are now returning to their calving grounds. During this migration they will be required to cross roadways, making them increasingly vulnerable to collisions with motorized vehicles.

Motorists are encouraged to:

• Scan both sides of the highway when travelling;
• Pay attention to caribou warning signs;
• Avoid driving at dusk and dawn when caribou are more common alongside roadways;
• Have passengers also watch for caribou; and
• Reduce speeds when driving at night when caribou are more difficult to see.
