May 21, 2021

Request for Proposal (RFP) applications for farmland property at Dead Water Brook, near the Town of Cormack, are available for prospective farmers interested in large-scale potato production. The property contains a total of 135 acres (54.6 hectares). Approximately 42.9 acres (17.4 hectares) have been rough cleared and enhanced. An additional 10.0 acres (4.0 hectares) have been rough cleared only.

The Request for Proposal Guide, including an overview and suitability map of the land available for development, is available online at Land for Agriculture.

Preference will be given to proposals for potato production and associated crops normally used in rotation with potato production. The deadline to submit proposals is June 4, 2021, at 4:30 pm. For more information on the RFP process, call 709-637-2081 or email danielsweetapple@gov.nl.ca.

The Provincial Government announced the large-scale potato production initiative in June 2020, as part of a $13-million plan to create jobs in a growing agriculture sector, and directly support farmers and producers. Agricultural leases were recently awarded for large-scale potato production at Junction Brook, Glenwood, and a second farmland property at Dead Water Brook.
