The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture is encouraging the public to visit engageNL to review and provide feedback on five-year forestry draft operating plans for Forest Management Zones 1, 2, 3 and 7 and Forest Management Districts 21 and 22 located on the Island and Labrador.
The public can view maps identifying geographic locations for each zone and district, maps highlighting areas of proposed forestry activities, information about types and volume of trees to be harvested for domestic and commercial purposes, plans for resource road construction and silviculture activity, and general time frames associated with forestry activity.
The deadline to submit feedback is Friday, August 27, 2021.
Feedback received will be evaluated and considered by forest managers for inclusion in the final five-year forest operating plans. The plans are also registered for review through the Environmental Assessment process, providing further opportunity for public input. Currently, plans for Forest Management Zones 3 and 7, and Forest Management District 21 have been registered through the Environmental Assessment process, while plans for Forest Management Zones 1 and 2, and Forest Management District 22 are anticipated to be registered in early August.
Information regarding the forest management planning process in Newfoundland and Labrador is available online at the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture website.
Individuals seeking additional information regarding the online public consultation process should contact Mr. Dave Poole, Director of Strategic Planning, Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture at: 709-256-1416 or by email: davepoole@gov.nl.ca.
