To mark National Tree Day 2021, Confederation Building will be lit green tonight (Wednesday, September 22). National Tree Day is celebrated each year across Canada on the Wednesday of National Forest Week.
The Province is also supporting tree planting ceremonies in observation of National Tree Day and National Forest Week at Teakwood Park in St. John’s and at Pasadena Elementary School, Pearce Junior High School in Burin and Fortune Bay Academy in St. Bernard’s. The Honourable Derrick Bragg, Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture and the Honourable Bernard Davis, Minster of Environment and Climate Change, are representing government today at the St. John’s event.
Provincial conservation officers will be in attendance at the tree planting ceremonies and all students will be provided with tree seedlings grown at the Provincial Tree Nursery at Wooddale.
Tree seedlings are available free of charge during National Forest Week (September 19 to 25) for individuals, schools, youth organizations and community groups at Forest Management District offices located throughout the province.

“On National Tree Day, we are reminded that our forests and green spaces help us in our efforts to address climate change, reducing the impacts by increasing the carbon-capturing potential of our forests. Trees provide sustainable benefits for our environment, such as clean air, wildlife habitats, reducing energy demand and opportunities to connect with nature.”
Honourable Bernard Davis
