The Provincial Government has been recognized for its efforts to achieve and maintain environmentally responsible forest management standards. For the seventh consecutive year, forestry operations administered by the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture have maintained International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification, keeping Newfoundland and Labrador on the leading edge of responsible forest management.

In a recent audit performed by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP under the ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system standard, the province’s Crown forest operations were recertified until 2024, subject to annual surveillance audits.

ISO14001:2015 certification is an environmental management standard used in all industry sectors to demonstrate commitment to environmental protection and to assure public confidence in management activities. In order to maintain registration, the department must demonstrate continuous improvement in implementing its Environmental Management System and ensure that all Crown forest land operators continue to operate within system guidelines.

The achievement of this internationally recognized standard demonstrates the Provincial Government’s commitment to ensuring that the forestry industry in Newfoundland and Labrador remains vibrant for years to come.
