The Provincial Government has launched public consultations to seek feedback on the development of a new Provincial Moose Management Plan and related wildlife issues for the period of 2022-2026.
The public, hunters and other stakeholders are encouraged to visit engageNL.ca to provide input through an online questionnaire. Information acquired through the public consultation process will help inform future policy decisions.
In addition to offering input on a new Provincial Moose Management Plan, the questionnaire allows the public to provide opinions on several wildlife management issues, including: Sunday hunting; licence allocations; the Program for Hunters and Anglers with a Disability; moose-vehicle collisions; the use of .22 calibre center fire rifles; and snaring of black bears.
The questionnaire will remain available until November 19, 2021.
In addition to the online questionnaire at engageNL.ca, the Provincial Government will be hosting a virtual public consultation session as part of the overall engagement process. Details are currently being finalized and will be announced in the near future.
Quote
“Public consultations are a critical component to ensuring future moose management policy and regulations reflect the views and opinions of hunters and other stakeholders throughout the province. I encourage all those with a vested interest in moose hunting and the sustainability our wildlife resources to take part in the consultation process and offer their perspective about what factors should be considered when important management decisions are made by government.”
