As the emergency management response to last week’s record rainfall in southwestern Newfoundland concludes, the provincial emergency operations centre will return to routine operations as of tomorrow (Friday, December 3).
As a result, the assistance inquiries line (1-833-855-0385) that was established for residents impacted by the rainstorm of November 23 and 24 will no longer be available. The line was activated to log calls and provide information as required. The public is advised that they should contact their municipality or normal service provider if they require information or assistance with municipal services. Those with immediate life safety concerns should always call 911.
Road repairs in the area are ongoing by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure. Motorists should drive cautiously, obey traffic control, watch for heavy equipment and crews, be prepared for lane reductions, and anticipate traffic delays. Road updates on highway driving conditions are being provided on the NL 511 app and www.nl511.ca.
We thank residents of the region for their continued patience and cooperation.
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador encourages everyone to be prepared for adverse weather conditions by always having a basic emergency kit available and be prepared for at least 72 hours, with food, water, batteries, a portable radio, and prescription medications.
The Provincial Government continues to work closely with emergency management partners and organizations and is always ready to respond.
