Provincially operated pools in Gander and Corner Brook will resume swimming lessons on July 6, 2021.
Registration will take place by phone only, beginning June 26 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. In person registration will not be accepted at this time. To register, please call the numbers below beginning at 9:00 a.m. on June 26. Registration will remain open until all spaces are filled.

Participants will only be permitted to register for one two-week block when registration opens. Should availability remain in either session, participants will be permitted to register for a second two-week block. Session dates will be as follows:
- Tuesday – Friday July 6–16
- Tuesday – Friday July 27–August 6
To arrange for payment, appointments will be booked at the time of registration for individuals to complete in person payment on June 28-30, July 2 and July 5.
In addition, please note the following changes to Lesson Levels:
- Red Cross Swim – Parent & Tot, Preschool School Age Level 1 to 4: will not be offered at this time.
- School Age Level 5 to 10: Class size has been reduced; a parent/guardian is not required in pool with child.
Department officials will continue to work with Public Health to open up further opportunities to use the pools for other lessons.
In consultation with the Canadian Red Cross Learn to Swim Program and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Indoor Pools Guidance, the following COVID-19 guidelines have been developed:
- Instructors are required to maintain physical distance unless in case of emergency.
- Equipment will be available for classes and will be disinfected before and after each use.
- Participants will be assigned their own equipment to use for the duration of their daily class.
