The Honourable Pam Parsons, Minister Responsible for Women and Gender Equality, today announced $820,000 in continued funding to support the important work of the 10 Violence Prevention Newfoundland and Labrador Organizations spread across the province.
Minister Parsons made the announcement at the offices of Burin Peninsula Voice Against Violence in Marystown which will receive $80,000 to assist with providing core services in:
- Information and referral;
- Public education, training and outreach; and
- Community leadership, coordination and accountability.
Violence Prevention Newfoundland and Labrador Organizations are located in Marystown, Harbour Grace, Gander, St. John’s Clarenville, St. Anthony, Grand Falls- Windsor, Stephenville, Corner Brook and Happy Valley-Goose Bay. They are incorporated, not-for-profit organizations managed by Boards of Directors.
Support for these organizations builds upon the Provincial Government’s Violence Prevention Initiative and recent efforts to protect those who are at risk including the establishment of 24/7 Domestic Violence Helpline (1-888-709-7090).
