The Honourable John G. Abbott, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, is paying tribute to the province’s over 1,600 social workers during March, which is National Social Work month.
Minister Abbott would like to thank social workers throughout Newfoundland and Labrador for their extraordinary dedication, hard work and professionalism as their work is vital in helping to improve the health, safety and social well-being of individuals, families and communities.
Social workers in Newfoundland and Labrador are engaged in diverse areas, including child protection, foster care and adoptions, health care, senior care, addictions, mental health and income support.
This year, the theme selected by the Canadian Association of Social Workers for National Social Work Month is “In Critical Demand – Social Work is Essential,” with a focus on the important role of social workers in extending essential services during the Covid-19 pandemic.
