As the holiday season draws near, the Provincial Government is reminding all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians that it is illegal to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Motorists are encouraged to arrange for a safe and sober ride home. Never get into a vehicle with a driver who you believe may be impaired. If you suspect someone is driving while impaired, contact law enforcement.

Besides impairment due to alcohol or drugs; fatigue, distraction, even over-the-counter and prescription medications can impact a motorist’s judgement, co-ordination, and reaction time behind the wheel.

In addition, be prepared for winter road conditions. As temperatures get colder, road conditions can deteriorate, so ensure you have proper tires on your vehicle to avoid unnecessary risk. Keep vehicles clear of snow and ice for proper visibility, and maintain a safe distance to avoid collisions. It is also important to keep a First-Aid kit in your vehicle.
