Public Advisory: Residents Reminded Not to Feed Wildlife

  • Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture

February 3, 2022

The public is asked not to feed or handle wild foxes. In recent days, conservation officers have responded to numerous reports of foxes being fed on major roadways, including Route 230 in the vicinity of Port Rexton.

Wildlife is best left undisturbed in its natural surroundings. Feeding any wildlife, including foxes, creates a public safety hazard and may lead to the destruction of the animal. This practice is particularly dangerous along highways.

Wild animals can be extremely dangerous and unpredictable when approached. Conservation officers will only handle wildlife if there is a public safety concern or if circumstances warrant an animal’s removal. Anyone encountering an aggressive wild animal is asked to report it to Forestry and Wildlife District offices located throughout the province.
