The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture Spruce Budworm Control Program is now complete for 2022. The program was carried out over the past several weeks along the west coast and Northern Peninsula, including areas adjacent to Gros Morne National Park.

Approximately 142,474 hectares of vulnerable forest was treated to help reduce the threat of future outbreaks of the destructive insect and reduce the need for large scale treatment programs in coming years. Maps identifying specific treatment locations can be viewed online.

Forestry staff will conduct insect surveys of treated areas over the next few weeks to assess the effectiveness of this year’s program.
