Additional forest access roads in the Miguel Lake area that had been closed as a result of the Paradise Lake and Bay d’Espoir Highway forest fires are now open. However, public access to areas beyond the fire line is still prohibited. This includes the specific area located along Great Rattling River road from inside Whales Back to Louse Lake – also known locally as 45 Road.
If you are planning to use forest access roads in the vicinity of these fires, please examine the below map to determine whether your cabin or camper is currently accessible. The map shows closed forest access roads in yellow. The areas shown in white crosshatch are active forest fire locations and are not accessible. The ‘STOP’ symbols represent the points at which the public may not go any further as they are considered unsafe.
The Bay d’Espoir Highway (Route 360) continues to remain open to traffic. However, forest access roads around North West Gander including the North West Gander forest access road remain closed as forest fire crews continue to work in the area.
Residents using re-opened forest access roads are asked to proceed with caution and be aware of forest firefighting crews who continue to work in the area.
