The Honourable Derek Bennett, Chair of the House of Assembly Management Commission, advises that the Management Commission, after considering the submission of the Honourable J. Derek Green and meeting with the former Chief Justice of Newfoundland and Labrador, has accepted the findings of his review entitled, ‘Fairness, Reliability and Justification: Accountability Based on Public Interest Disclosures’ and is releasing it publicly.
The independent review was undertaken by the former Chief Justice of the March 2022 report of the Citizens’ Representative entitled ‘A Report on Public Interest Disclosures Regarding the Chief Electoral Officer for Newfoundland and Labrador.’
The Management Commission has recommended to the Lieutenant-Governor in Council that Bruce Chaulk be reinstated to the positions of Chief Electoral Officer and Commissioner for Legislative Standards. The Commission also recommended that Ann Chafe, acting Commissioner for Legislative Standards, continue until her outstanding reports have been submitted to the Speaker. Other matters raised in the report will be dealt with by the Management Commission as appropriate.
The Lieutenant-Governor in Council has issued the Orders in Council to revoke the suspension of Mr. Chaulk effective immediately.
