Today, the Honourable Pam Parsons, Minister Responsible for Women and Gender Equality, celebrates the achievements of women across Newfoundland and Labrador in recognition of International Women’s Day.
In 2021, the Provincial Government renamed the former Office for the Status of Women to the Office of Women and Gender Equality. This name change reflects government’s priorities to advance gender equity, and working with community partners to make our province a safe and inclusive place for all.
The Office of Women and Gender Equality actively works in collaboration with women and gender diverse serving organizations, violence prevention organizations, government departments, and key stakeholders to advance the social, economic, cultural and legal status of women and gender diverse people in our province.
Initiatives to support this work includes providing $3.2 million in operational funding to various organizations including Women’s Centres and violence prevention organizations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador; co-chairing the Premier’s Roundtable on Gender Equity; and applying Gender-Based Analysis Plus to all policies, programs, services, legislations, and budgets.
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

The Office of Women and Gender Equality will continue to work closely with community partners to help break down gender-based barriers so that everyone in our province is truly equal.”
