The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
Canning’s Lake Bee Farm and Forage Area (Reg. 2266)
Proponent: Tuck’s Bee Better Farm Inc.
The Proponent is proposing to establish a bee farm at Canning’s Lake, located along the Bay D’ Espoir Highway in central Newfoundland. The farm would consist of two parcels of Crown land, and development would include the installation of beehives on one parcel and fencing the bee yard. Access to the bee yard would be via Haynes Lake Access Road, an existing forestry access road. The second parcel of Crown land would surround the bee yard and provide a 2042-hectare forage area for the bees. No new road construction or other land use is proposed for the forage area. The undertaking was registered on August 31, 2023; the deadline for public comment is October 5, 2023; and the minister’s decision is due by October 15, 2023.
Gander to Gambo Transmission Line 146L Rebuild (Reg. 2265)
Proponent: Newfoundland Power Inc.
The Proponent is proposing to rebuild their 146L transmission line which extends 40.7 kilometres between the Towns of Gander and Gambo in central Newfoundland. The proposed work would include reconstruction of the transmission line where continued maintenance is no longer feasible, as well as brush clearing, the installation of poles and supporting infrastructure, and the dismantling and disposal of decommissioned materials. Northwest River Bridge Replacements (Reg. 2264)
Proponent: Scouts Canada (NL) Properties Inc.
The Proponent is proposing to replace two deteriorating bridges over tributary brooks to Northwest River, a scheduled salmon river. This work is required to maintain access to Camp Nor’Wes, a Scouts Canada (NL) campsite which borders Northwest Pond, near the Town of Port Blandford, in Eastern Newfoundland. PLAN ACCEPTED:
Terra Nova Quarry (Reg. 2182)
Proponent: Mac-Court Holdings Inc.
On August 30, 2023, the minister advised the Proponent that the Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP) for the Terra Nova Quarry project was reviewed and found to be acceptable. The WRMP was required by a condition of release from environmental assessment and is available on the department’s project web page at: www.gov.nl.ca/ecc/projects/project-2182/.
UNDERTAKING RELEASED:
Glovertown Concrete Batch Plant (Reg. 2251)
Proponent: Oram’s Do-All Contracting Limited
The project is released from environmental assessment subject to the following conditions:
- The Proponent must uphold all commitments made in the environmental assessment submission to mitigate the effects of the project on the environment.
- The Proponent must update the Environmental Assessment Division on the status of the project, including a copy of all permits, licences, certificates, approvals and other authorizations required for the project, one year from the date of this release letter and to provide additional updates if required.
