Two wildland fire specialists from the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture will be representing Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2023 Fallen Firefighter Memorial taking place on Sunday, September 10 in Ottawa.

Wildland Fire Training Specialist Stephanie Pinksen, based in Corner Brook, and Forest Fire Protection Supervisor Tom Burry, based in Gander, will be participating in this annual ceremony that honours fallen firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Ms. Pinksen has also been selected by the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation to be one of four wildland firefighting personnel to be a part of the Headdress Party that will present helmets to the families of fallen firefighters.

The Canadian Fire Service’s Fallen Firefighter Memorial is attended by the top fire service personnel in Canada, firefighters from across the country, government representatives, families and friends.

Quote
“Forest fires impacting Newfoundland and Labrador and other parts of Canada over the past few years have highlighted the hazards faced by our firefighting professionals. The Canadian Fallen Firefighting Memorial serves as a stark reminder about the inherent risks that are an unfortunate reality of this honourable profession. We are proud to have such fine representation from our province attending this special ceremony.”
Honourable Elvis Loveless
Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture
