The Honourable Andrew Parsons, KC, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, will be in Aberdeen, Scotland this week for the Offshore Europe Conference and Exhibition 2023.
Minister Parsons and a delegation from Newfoundland and Labrador will join Energy NL as it leads a joint Atlantic Canada Pavilion at the conference, which runs from September 5 to 8, 2023. Energy NL is taking the lead on the pavilion, which was previously managed by the Maritimes Energy Association. Newfoundland and Labrador’s delegation includes more than 35 people, representing more than 10 companies. Representatives from Newfoundland Labrador have been attending this event since the early 1990s.
This year’s Offshore Europe theme is “Accelerating the transition to a better energy future”. Much of the focus at this year’s conference will be on the transition towards net zero, with a focus on carbon capture technologies, as well as producing, transporting, storing and using low-carbon hydrogen. The 2023 event, which marks the 50th anniversary of the first Offshore Europe conference, has four key pillars: energy security, energy transition, future talent and innovative technology.
The Department of Industry, Energy and Technology will partner with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and the Government of Nova Scotia at the Atlantic Canada Pavilion. More than 38,000 people took part in Offshore Europe’s last pre-COVID-19 gathering in 2019. This will be the first full-scale gathering since that time. Offshore Europe runs concurrently with a technical conference held by the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Offshore Europe attracts the leading service and technology companies as well as operators promoting solutions to optimize exploration and production. The conference is an opportunity to promote the energy and supply and service sectors in Newfoundland and Labrador.
