Motorists are advised that Canning Bridge on Route 220 in Marystown is currently closed. The bridge remains safe to use for pedestrians and cyclists. All other vehicles will detour around the closure via Columbia Drive and Creston Causeway.

The closure is necessary due to a reduction in the maximum load limit related to recent steel testing on the bridge. The maximum load limit was originally reduced to 10 tonnes in November.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has also notified the Town of Marystown and emergency responders about use of the bridge, and will be meeting with the town council soon to discuss next steps.

Work will begin soon to determine future plans for the bridge. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
