The Honourable Pam Parsons, Minister Responsible for Women and Gender Equality, is part of the Canadian delegation attending the United Nations’ 67th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67) in New York City.
CSW67 brings together feminist leaders, experts and advocates from around the globe to discuss best practices and policies that promote gender equity. The theme of CSW67 is “innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.”
The Commission on the Status of Women was established in 1946. It is the main global intergovernmental body focused on the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. The commission has played a lead role in documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world and shaping global standards on gender equality.
The Provincial Government is committed to supporting and promoting gender equality throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. In 2021, the former Office of the Status of Women was renamed the Office of Women and Gender Equality. This included an expanded mandate to advance the social, economic, cultural and legal status of women in our province, and to work toward equality among people of all genders.
Quote
“It is an honour to be invited by the Honourable Marci Ien, federal Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth, to attend CSW67 as a part of the Canadian delegation. This event helps to inform and shape global policy, and will allow knowledge exchange with some of the world’s top gender equity experts. I look forward to listening, sharing, and bringing information back to our government to help us continue to advance this important work, particularly as it relates to technology and innovation.”
