The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Appleton Mineral Exploration Trenching                                           (Reg. 2307)
Proponent: New Found Gold Corp.

The Proponent is proposing to continue mineral exploration on mineral licences associated with the Queensway Gold Project by conducting trenching at three locations. Over a period of three to five years, four new trenches would be systematically excavated covering an area of approximately 12.90 hectares. Development would consist of land clearing, the removal and stockpiling of overburden material, washing of exposed bedrock and storage of used water in settling ponds, and potential blasting. Proposed developments are considered temporary, and sites will be rehabilitated using stockpiled overburden material. The undertaking was registered on May 9, 2024; the deadline for public comment is June 14, 2024, and the minister’s decision is due by June 23, 2024.

Burin BDC Construction Quarry                                                          (Reg. 2306)
Proponent: BDC Construction 

The Proponent is proposing a 4.0-hectare extension to their existing quarry, located approximately 488 metres south of the Mortier Big Pond in the Town of Burin. Slate rock material will be extracted to be used for road construction, land development, backfilling and driveway construction within the Burin Peninsula. Red Cross Brook River Crossing                                                     (Reg. 2305)
Proponent: Vulcan Minerals Inc.

The Proponent is proposing to ford a scheduled salmon river at the outflow of Red Cross Lake to conduct preliminary site evaluations on a mineral exploration property located approximately 50 kilometres south of the town of Buchans in central Newfoundland. Fording would be conducted to transport personnel and equipment using ATVs and / or tracked machines and would include daily round trips over two operating periods in 2024. Botwood Airport Road Quarry                                                              (Reg. 2304)
Proponent: 10947 NFLD Inc

The Proponent is proposing to establish and operate a 1.0-hectare sand and gravel quarry located on Airport Road in Botwood. The proposed quarry would produce material for construction business within the Bishop Falls and surrounding areas. The Project is a new quarry in the proximity of historic quarries.
