The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Environmental Assessment – Part 10 – of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
Garia River Crossing (Reg. 2342)
Proponent: AuMEGA Metals Ltd.
The proponent is proposing to ford four stream locations, including one scheduled salmon river, Garia River, during a winter mineral exploration drilling program on its Bunker Hill Project area in south-western Newfoundland. Fording would be conducted to transport personnel daily and drilling equipment will be tracked in/out once only during frozen conditions. The undertaking was registered on December 20, 2024; the deadline for public comment is January 24, 2025, and the minister’s decision is due by February 3, 2025.
FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT GUIDELINES APPROVED:
Lewisporte Biomedical Waste Incineration (Reg. 2316)
Proponent: Paul Dalley Holdings Inc.
The minister has approved the final guidelines for the preparation of the environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Lewisporte Biomedical Waste Incineration project. The EIS guidelines identify the information that the proponent will be required to address in the EIS. Kami Iron Ore Mine (Reg. 2301)
Proponent: Champion Iron Mines Ltd.
The minister has approved the final guidelines for the preparation of the environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Kami Iron Ore Mine project. The EIS guidelines identify the information that the proponent will be required to address in the EIS. PLAN ACCEPTABLE:
Gander to Gambo Transmission Line 146L Rebuild (Reg. 2265)
Proponent: Newfoundland Power Inc.
On December 18, 2024, the minister advised the proponent that the Waste Management Plan for the project is acceptable. The plan was required as a condition of release from environmental assessment and is available the Department of Environment and Climate Change website at www.gov.nl.ca/ecc/projects/project-2265/.
