This morning, the Honourable Dr. Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, announced plans for a new multiplex provincial recreational facility in Galway.
The facility is intended to house multiple sporting surfaces, including ice rinks and curling sheets, and will support regional and national sports competitions.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the functional design of the facility. Information on tenders issued and awarded by the department and other public bodies is available by visiting www.merx.com/govnl.
With $500,000 allocated through Budget 2024, this investment supports the Provincial Government’s commitment to transforming sporting and recreational infrastructure within our province’s growing communities, ensuring all residents have opportunities to meet their own health and well-being goals. This facility will also bolster the province’s ability to attract large-scale sporting events, providing economic benefits to the tourism and hospitality industry and Newfoundland and Labrador communities.
