Premier Furey and Minister Reid Congratulate the NunatuKavut Community Council Following Election Results

The Honourable Dr. Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Dr. Scott Reid, Minister Responsible for Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation, congratulate President Todd Russell (acclaimed) and all councillors (acclaimed and elected) following the announcement of election results for the NunatuKavut Community Council.

Nominated candidates who were elected by acclamation to serve on the governing council include:

  • Dexter Flynn, councillor for Area 1: Straits.
  • Jessie Tobin (incumbent), councillor for Area 5: Western Labrador.

The general election for contested positions on the governing council was held on November 7, with the following elected to join the governing council:

  • Roy Mangrove (incumbent), councillor for Area 2: Battle Harbour
  • Cyril Campbell (incumbent) and Boyce Turnbull (incumbent), councillors for Area 3: Bolsters Rock to Spear Point
  • Lorna Knee, councillor for Area 4: Sandwich Bay / Island of Ponds
  • James Holwell (incumbent) and Hughlett Williams (incumbent), councillors for Area 5: Central/Northern Labrador
  • Jeanette Russell, councillor for Area 7: All of Canada outside NunatuKavut; and
  • Zoey Russell, youth councillor

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador congratulates President Russell and all councillors and thanks all candidates for offering their candidacy in the general election.
