The Provincial Government is reminding residents that an outdoor fire ban prohibiting the setting of fires on forest land or within 300 metres of forest land, is in place for all of Newfoundland and Labrador until further notice. The ban was authorized under the authority of section 99 of the Forestry Act.
Dry weather conditions in Labrador and on the island have heightened the wildfire risk throughout the province and significant firefighting resources are currently dedicated to suppression efforts on fires impacting the community of Churchill Falls. Implementing the outdoor fire ban will help reduce the wildfire risk and support the efforts of wildfire suppression teams actioning active fires.
For more information regarding the fire ban contact your local Forest Management District Office.
