Cheques have been mailed to residents eligible for the 2024 Coastal Labrador Seniors’ Food and Heating Supplement. Please note that while Canada Post is making a best effort to stabilize delivery operations for rural and remote areas, delays should be expected.

As announced in Budget 2024 and in the Seniors’ Health and Well-Being Plan, the annual $500 Coastal Labrador Seniors’ Food and Heating Supplement is available to seniors living in Coastal Labrador communities to help with the cost of food and heating.

Application for the supplement is not necessary, but residents are required to file their 2023 income tax returns by December 31, 2024, to avail of the 2024 Coastal Labrador Seniors’ Food and Heating Supplement.

For assistance with filing your tax return, please contact the Canada Revenue Agency’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, which coordinates with community organizations to host free tax clinics where volunteers complete tax returns for people with a modest income and a simple tax situation.

Quotes
“I am pleased to advise that the 2024 Coastal Labrador Seniors’ Food and Heating Supplement cheques have now been sent to most eligible residents in Labrador. This is just one of the ways the Provincial Government is working to help seniors with the cost of living, in addition to increases to the income supplement and the seniors’ benefit, and other programs available through the Seniors Health and Well-Being Plan announced in Budget 2024.”
Honourable Siobhan Coady
Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance

“I am pleased to be part of a government that recognizes that, while all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians face challenges with affordability, seniors in coastal Labrador communities experience a higher cost of living. I know this $500 supplement will be used by seniors to best meet their individual needs; whether that’s to help with heating their homes, putting food on the table, or hiring someone to clear their snow.”
Honourable Lisa Dempster
Minister of Labrador Affairs

“It is important that we continue to have a strong focus on seniors and older adults to help ensure that, as we age, we can remain healthy, active, engaged and living in age-friendly communities. The Seniors’ Health and Well-Being Plan is supplementing work already in place across government, ensuring a fulsome approach to how we support the independence of seniors in the province.”
Honourable Paul Pike
Minister of Children, Seniors, and Social Development
