Last Thursday (June 20), the Standing Committee on Public Accounts held a public hearing to follow up on matters contained in several reports of the Auditor General. The matters under consideration included:
- Adult Custody and Community Corrections, with officials appearing from the Department of Justice and Public Safety;
- Food Premises Inspection & Licensing Program, with officials appearing from the Departments of Digital Government and Service NL, and Health and Community Services;
- Innovation and Business Investment Corporation, with officials appearing from the Department of Industry, Energy and Technology; and
- Office of the High Sheriff, with officials appearing from the Department of Justice and Public Safety and the Office of the High Sheriff.
The Public Accounts Committee wishes to express its appreciation to all witnesses who appeared last week for their cooperation and testimony. The Committee’s follow-up work on these important matters will continue in the coming months, particularly respecting those recommendations that remain outstanding. Officials from concerned entities may be invited to appear before the Committee again at a future public hearing.
