Media Advisory: Winter Lights Across Canada Celebration This Evening

The 38th annual Winter Lights Across Canada celebration will take place today (Thursday, December 5), beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Confederation Building, East Block, St. John’s.

The Honourable Dr. Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will be joined by the Honourable Fred Hutton, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure and Minister of Rural Economic Development, and five-year-old Jake Abbott from Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s who will activate the lights on Confederation Hill.

This event will be hosted by Toni-Marie Wiseman of NTV and entertainment will be provided by Peter Daniel Newman, Brookside Intermediate Choir, and the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band.

The Winter Lights Across Canada celebration is an annual event where each province and territory decorates its capital city and holds its own lighting ceremony. The initiative contributes to a nationwide effort to symbolically link Canadians together for the holiday season.
