The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Environmental Assessment – Part 10 – of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
Green Bay Ming Mine                                                                   (Reg. 2351)
Proponent: FireFly Metals Canada Ltd.

The proponent is proposing to expand the existing Ming Mine on the Baie Verte Peninsula. The project will involve the extraction of copper-rich critical minerals by expanding its current operation. Project components include underground mining infrastructure, a processing plant, tailing management facility, haul roads, transmission lines, water intake, concentrate storage and handling, and accommodation and camp facilities. The undertaking was registered on April 22, 2025. The deadline for public comment is May 27, 2025, and the Minister’s decision is due by June 6, 2025.

Cox’s Cove Breakwaters                                                             (Reg. 2352)
Proponent: Town of Cox’s Cove

The proponent is proposing to construct two breakwaters to protect critical road, water and sewer infrastructure from storm surges and future erosion. Construction will consist of armour stone placement using an excavator. The two proposed breakwater structures will be approximately 350 metres total length, two to three metres wide with the base spanning upwards of 20-25 metres.
