The Honourable Dr. Scott Reid, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Environmental Assessment – Part 10 – of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Upper Humber Remote Cabin                                                                (Reg. 2358)
Proponent: Sheila White-Parr

The proponent is proposing to construct a remote cabin for recreational purposes along the Upper Humber River, approximately 20 kilometres from Route 420. The proposed project would involve selective land clearing and the construction of a private driveway connecting the site to Taylors Brook Road. The undertaking was registered on May 30, 2025. The deadline for public comment is July 4, 2025, and the minister’s decision is due by July 14, 2025.

Chapel’s Cove Breakwater                                                                      (Reg. 2357)
Proponent: Town of Harbour Main-Chapel’s Cove-Lakeview

The proponent is proposing to construct a 115-metre breakwater on the western shoreline of Chapel’s Cove.  The breakwater would protect adjacent roads and residential properties from wave action during storm surge events, mitigating coastal erosion, flooding and damage to the coastline. Construction would involve placement of armour stone using an excavator. No dredging or clearing of the underwater substrate would be required. The undertaking was registered on May 29, 2025. The deadline for public comment is July 4, 2025, and the minister’s decision is due by July 13, 2025.

Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro                              (Reg. 2350)
