The Honourable Dr. Scott Reid, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Environmental Assessment – Part 10 – of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Port Saunders Northern Minerals Limited Quarry                            (Reg. 2364)
Proponent: Northern Minerals Limited
The proponent is proposing to develop a 176-hectare rock quarry approximately 1.5 kilometres south of the town of Port Saunders. The project would include a 1.7 km access road, a laydown/stockpile area and a marine facility for the export of aggregate to international markets. Quarry operations would involve drilling, blasting, crushing, and screening. The undertaking was registered on July 25, 2025. The deadline for public comment is August 29, 2025, and the minister’s decision is due by September 8, 2025.

Happy Valley-Goose Bay South Branch Road Quarry                    (Reg. 2365)
Proponent: Nunatsiavut Construction Inc.

The proponent is proposing to develop and operate a 14-hectare quarry approximately 17.7 kilometres west of the town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The quarry development would include a 1.4-hectare stockpile area and drilling, blasting, crushing and screening operations. Barachois Brook Sand Quarry                                                                 (Reg. 2366)
Proponent: Farrell’s Excavating Ltd.
The proponent is proposing to develop and operate a 6.92-hectare sand and gravel quarry approximately 2.1 kilometres from the community of Barachois Brook. The quarry materials would be used for roadway development, and commercial and residential paving in the area. CBPPL Zone 5, District 10 Five-Year Forestry Operating Plan (2026-2030)
Proponent: Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited (CBPPL)
                                (Reg. 2367)
The proponent is proposing a Five-Year Forestry Operating Plan in Zone 5 on CBPPL timber lands within Forest Management District 10, in Central Newfoundland. The project takes in five main operating areas, including Long Pond, Rocky Pond, Mark’s Pond, Mary Ann Lake, and Cassandra Pond. The operating plan outlines proposed timber harvesting, resource road construction, silviculture, and other forest management activities and covers the period from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2030.
