The Honourable Dr. Scott Reid, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Environmental Assessment – Part 10 – of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
150 MW (Nominal) Bay d’Espoir Hydroelectric Generating Unit (Reg. 2369)
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro
The proponent is proposing the construction and operation of an additional 150 MW (nominal) generating unit (Unit 8) at the Bay d’Espoir hydroelectric generating facility. The proposed project is an extension to an existing Powerhouse 2 and will include a generating facility, water conveyance system and transmission facilities. The undertaking was registered on August 8, 2025. The deadline for public comments is September 12, 2025, and the Minister’s decision is due by September 22, 2025. Comments may be sent to: EAProjectComments@gov.nl.ca
