The Honourable Krista Lynn Howell, Minister of Education, is reminding educators of a professional development opportunity for teachers and administrators in the K-12 public education system in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Department of Education’s Reading Bursary Program is available to teachers in Newfoundland and Labrador who are enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Education (Reading Development and Instruction) program or the Master of Education (Reading Development and Instruction) program at Memorial University. The department provides educators with a $500 bursary up to a maximum of $2,000 for completion of the four core reading courses in either program.

The Reading Bursary Program is intended to provide individuals with an opportunity to further their professional learning and deepen their understanding of reading development, which better supports instruction in the classroom including students who may experience difficulty in learning to read.

For more information on the Reading Bursary Program, including the application form,  teachers must login using their NLSchools or Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation (CDLI) account on the K-12 Professional Development website here. For more information, email ReadingBursary@gov.nl.ca.
