Nominations are now open for the 2025 Premier’s Medals for Arts, Heritage, Recreation and Sport.

Announced in 2023, the Premier’s Medal for Arts, Heritage, Recreation and Sport represents the highest honour in Newfoundland and Labrador in these disciplines. The awards recognize individuals and groups whose exceptional contributions have made a lasting and outstanding impact on the province and its people. Annually, two recipients from each discipline will be honoured.

In celebration of the Year of Sport and to coincide with the 2025 Canada Games, this year’s presentation will be enhanced to honour 10 recipients from the recreation sector and 10 recipients from the sport sector alongside two recipients each from the arts and heritage sectors.

The deadline for submissions is Thursday, July 31, 2025. More information on the Premier’s Medal for Arts, Heritage, Recreation and Sport, including the nomination process, is available here.

Quotes
“The Premier’s Medal for Arts, Heritage, Recreation and Sport is an incredible recognition of talent, passion and commitment. These four disciplines are tremendous contributors to our province and it is exciting to present the inaugural recreation and sport medals during the Year of Sport. I look forward to honouring the outstanding individuals and groups who have made a lasting difference in our communities.”
Honourable John Hogan, KC
Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador

“Last year, during the Year of the Arts, we honoured the first-ever arts and heritage recipients of the Premier’s Medal for Arts, Heritage, Recreation and Sport. It is fitting that this year, during the Year of Sport, we present the first-ever recreation and sport medals alongside their arts and heritage comrades. I encourage all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to look within their communities for those who inspire others with their skills, talent and contributions and consider nominating them.”
Honourable Fred Hutton
Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation
