Accessibility Grant Recipients Improve Inclusion Across the Province

The Honourable Jamie Korab, Minister of Families and Affordability, and Minister Responsible for the Status of Persons with Disabilities, is today announcing 23 projects have been approved to receive grants under the 2025-26 Accessibility Grant Program.

These accessibility projects will improve the accessibility and inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Priority was given to capacity-building projects, programs or services that promote accessibility and inclusion beyond physical infrastructure.

Organization/Municipality Project Description
Bay L’Argent Lions Club Installing a wheelchair ramp and reconfiguring the building entrance to improve accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Boys and Girls Club of St. John’s Building capacity to deliver inclusive, trauma-informed programming for children and youth with disabilities, neurodiverse needs, and mental health challenges.
Canadian National Institute for the Blind – NL Raising awareness and challenging misconceptions about sight loss, promoting greater understanding, respect, and inclusion for persons with vision loss in all areas of life.
Easter Seals NL Teaching children about disability in a fun, interactive way to build empathy and promote inclusive school environments.
Gateway Seniors 50 Plus Installing an accessible door to improve access for seniors using wheelchairs or walkers and persons with disabilities.
Goodwill Seniors Club Extending the front landing of the building and widening the rear entrance step to improve accessibility.
Inclusion Canada NL Developing and distributing an accessible hiring toolkit for employers to make hiring processes more inclusive for persons with disabilities.
King’s Point and Rattling Brook Recreation Committee Installing an accessible swing at the King’s Point playground.
Learning Disabilities Association of NL Improving math accessibility for children and adults with learning disabilities.
Masonic Lodge #476 Harbour Grace Constructing a wheelchair ramp to improve access to the lodge.
NL Stuttering Association Improving inclusion for persons who stutter by assessing needs, evaluating services, and guiding support programs. Partners include the Canadian Mental Health Association – NL and Memorial University.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 32 Bay Roberts Installing a wheelchair ramp, wider doors, and push-button entry for the legion.
St. Anthony and Area Lions Club Installing a wheelchair ramp to improve accessibility to the community space.
The Pottle Centre Providing Braille materials, amplification devices, improved signage, interpretive services, and sign language sessions.
Local Service District of Tizzard’s Harbour Improving accessibility and comfort at the community hall for seniors and individuals with mobility disabilities.
Town of Carbonear Renovating the washrooms at the Conception Bay Regional Community Centre to provide accessible facilities.
Town of Grand Bank Building a ramp access and wheelchair accessible decking at the Town Community Soccer Club House.
Town of Harbour Breton Installing automatic doors for the Connaigre Arena.
Town of Harbour Main-Chapel’s Cove-Lakeview Renovating the town’s public facility to include an accessible washroom.
Town of Lark Harbour Installing a communications board in the community playground to improve accessibility.
Town of Point Leamington Adding kinesthetic playground equipment to support children with sensory sensitivities, especially those on the autism spectrum.
Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s Adding a wheelchair-accessible merry-go-round to Rainbow Gully Park.
Town of Steady Brook Recreation Committee Installing an accessible swing and barrier-free walkway to Town of Steady Brook Community Playground.
