Representatives from the Public Procurement Agency will share insights and advice on doing business and bidding for work during the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association’s Build 2025 expo May 7-8 at the Jack Byrne Regional Sport and Entertainment Centre in Torbay. Joining the agency will be representatives from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services, Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation, and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro.

The Public Procurement Agency is responsible for procuring goods and services on behalf of government departments in accordance with the Public Procurement Act. The Act, which applies to other public bodies including municipalities, enables the pursuit of best value, transparency, and accountability in procurement. The Provincial Government’s procurement strategies aim to increase the success of Newfoundland and Labrador companies in securing government contracts here at home. For example, the NL First Procurement Strategy builds upon the success provincial supplier allowance by providing a pricing evaluation advantage to provincial suppliers.

The Provincial Government also recognizes the benefits provincial suppliers bring to the local economy and is committed to continuously improving the social, environmental, and economic impacts of its procurement activities. Through the Sustainable Procurement Policy, government departments and large public bodies must now consider sustainability measures in procurement, such as local and economic sustainability factors.

Quotes
“While current events have brought the ‘Buy Local’ concept to the forefront of public consciousness, our government’s forward thinking procurement strategies have already put us well ahead of the game with ‘local first’ built into legislation. With uncertainty at our doorstep in the form of tariff threats from the United States – our country’s biggest trading partner – we are eager to share our expertise and support for the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association and its members.”
Honourable Gerry Byrne
Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture
Minister Responsible for the Public Procurement Agency
