Public Advisory: Resource Enforcement Division Investigation Leads to Charges for Poaching of Atlantic Salmon

A recent investigation conducted by the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture’s Resource Enforcement Division has resulted in charges against two individuals for netting Atlantic salmon.

On June 14, 2025, Resource Enforcement Officers observed a gill net in coastal waters that appeared to be set for capturing Atlantic salmon. Officers conducted a surveillance operation at the location and intercepted a boat in the morning hours of June 15. Two individuals from the community of St. Patrick’s were arrested for contravention of the Fisheries Act and will appear at court in Grand Falls-Windsor at a later date. A boat, motor, net and 10 Atlantic salmon were seized.

Information provided by the public plays a significant role in assisting investigations carried out by Resource Enforcement Officers.
