Public Advisory: Province Lifting Restriction on Off-Road Vehicles on Forested Land

  • Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture

August 20, 2025

The temporary restriction on off-road vehicles will end tonight at 11:59 p.m. The province-wide fire ban remains in effect in Newfoundland and Labrador. This ban will be in place until at least September 7, when a determination will be made about its status.

The Provincial Government would like to thank all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians for their cooperation over these past few days. Your efforts helped to support forest firefighters and those impacted by wildfires.

Those who plan to use off-road vehicles are recommended to make it a habit to consider the conditions of the forested areas around them and avoid travel when conditions are very dry. All off-road vehicles must be equipped with a proper screening or baffling device to prevent sparks from escaping. Off-road vehicle operators must also carry a fire extinguisher with a minimum of 225 grams of ABC-class dry chemical when travelling in grassy or wooded areas.
