Forestry officials have re-opened a portion of the resource road at Miguel Lake, located three kilometres from Route 360 (Bay d’Espoir Highway).
PLEAE NOTE: This road is only open to cabins located at Miguel Lake. Access to cabins beyond Miguel Lake, as well as cabins in the Martin Lake and Rushy Pond areas, remains closed at this time.
The Martin Lake wildfire is still 1770 hectares and is now classified as “Being Held.” This means with the current committed resources, and based on prevailing and forecasted conditions, sufficient action has been taken to prevent fire spread beyond existing or predetermined boundaries. Ground crews are still in the area actioning any remaining hot spots.
Residents and cabin owners are asked to monitor official government sources for all updates and are reminded that a province-wide fire ban is in effect in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The latest information on the location, status, and size of active wildfires is available on the NL Active Wildfire Dashboard.
