The Kingston wildfire remains active, with lingering smoke continuing to affect the western boundary. The Incident Management Team reports a steady decrease in overall fire activity, however, it is still classified as “Out of Control.” The wildfire remains estimated at 10,095 hectares.
The weather is favourable for ground crews who are working to locate and address hot spots today. Aerial assets were ground again this morning due to weather, but are on site today and will fly as conditions allow.
Nearly 35 millimetres of rain helped with suppression efforts on hot spots yesterday, with 59 ground crew members from Newfoundland and Labrador and British Columbia, and local fire departments on site.
The weather for the next number of days is favourable with high humidity, chances of rain and cooler temperatures.
The Martin Lake wildfire is under control. Ten ground crews from Newfoundland and Labrador will continue working in the area over the coming days to address hot spots. Resource roads in the cabin areas around Martin Lake have re-opened. Cabin owners may occasionally notice smoke in the area in the coming weeks. While this is normal, open flames or thick smoke should be reported immediately.
The Paddy’s Pond wildfire has been declared out, thanks to the tremendous efforts of ground and aerial suppression crews, volunteer fire departments, and Canadian Armed Forces members.
