Public Advisory: Province-wide Fire Ban Lifted

  • Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture

September 12, 2025

The province-wide outdoor fire ban issued on August 5 has been lifted.

The Provincial Government reminds residents that it is still forest fire season in the province. Those wishing to have an open outdoor fire are asked to check the Fire Hazard Map beforehand. Fires will be banned for regions where the index is very high or extreme. This map is updated daily at approximately 2:00 p.m.

The Public Reminders for Forest Fire Season also provides guidance for activities permitted during this time.

Residents are urged to do everything they can to help prevent forest fires.

  • Attend fires at all times. Never leave a fire until ashes have been extinguished.
  • Always have sufficient water and other tools on site to extinguish a fire.
  • Coals used during barbecuing, or as part of any other burning unit, must be extinguished before being discarded.
  • Off-road vehicle operators should use a proper screening or baffling device to prevent sparks from escaping and carry a fire extinguisher with a minimum of 225 grams of ABC-class dry chemical when travelling in grassy or wooded areas.

The Provincial Government extends its appreciation to all residents of Newfoundland and Labrador for their cooperation in observing the open fire ban during this challenging wildfire season.

To report a wildfire, call: 1-866-709-FIRE (3473).
