The Standing Committee on Public Accounts advises that it will be following up on the Auditor General’s findings contained in the recent performance audit report Health Sector Contracts – Phase 1 to ensure the recommendations have been implemented.

The Committee was briefed this week on the findings and recommendations in the report and shares the Auditor General’s serious concerns regarding Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services’ failure to follow proper procurement processes, to use controls to verify contractual terms were being followed and to adequately plan for the use of agency nursing.

The Public Accounts Committee will be contacting Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services immediately to request an action plan for implementation of the Auditor General’s recommendations, and to advise that officials will be requested to appear at a future public hearing on these important matters.

Quote
“The Public Accounts Committee is committed to ensuring that Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services follow appropriate procurement, planning and management processes when executing contracts for agency nursing. We commend the Auditor General and her team for their diligence on this audit, and we look forward to the co-operation of Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services in conducting our follow-up on behalf of the Legislature and the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
