Speaker Acknowledges Retirement of Child and Youth Advocate

The Honourable Derek Bennett, Speaker of the House of Assembly, today acknowledges the retirement of Child and Youth Advocate, Linda Clemens Spurrell. Ms. Clemens Spurrell was appointed by resolution of the House of Assembly on October 11, 2022, further to Section 4 of the Child and Youth Advocate Act.

The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate is responsible for promoting and protecting the rights of all children and youth in the province and provides public oversight of government programs and services.

Karen Grey is serving as the acting Child and Youth Advocate in the interim until such time as the recruitment process for a permanent advocate is carried out. Ms. Grey served in the role of Director of Reviews, Investigations and Systemic Advocacy in that Office, and served as the interim acting Advocate in 2022.
