The Honourable John G. Abbott, Minister Responsible for the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation, will attend an information session and meet-the-residents event being held by the Killick Ecovillage Co-operative tomorrow (Saturday, June 7).
The event is taking place at the Arts, Wellness and Heritage Group building, 5 R.C. Church Road, Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The proposed Killick Ecovillage is a cohousing community in which residents work to live as sustainably as possible, and would feature private, mixed-income homes connected by walking paths, shared community spaces, and a food forest.
The Provincial Government provided the Killick Ecovillage Co-op with $50,000 through the Newfoundland and Labrador Community Housing Growth Fund. The fund supports community organizations and registered charities with funding for planning and pre-development work for affordable housing projects, where the absence of this funding could be a barrier to the projects’ advancement.-30-
