To enhance economic development and tourism, the Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, today announced $135,403 for the Norris Arm Heritage Society waterfront revival and production project.
Known for its aviation, railway, logging, archaeology and military history, the Norris Arm Heritage and Arts Centre hosts weekly events for all ages, such as dinner theatres and other cultural events. This funding will be used as part of a project for the beautification and revitalization of the waterfront property outside of the Heritage and Arts Centre. This will include upgrading the waterfront boardwalk to improve user safety and accessibility.
The work being proposed will enhance the facility’s operations and appeal giving travelling tourists a place outside to enjoy the breathtaking Bay of Exploits all while exploring the Heritage and Arts Centre’s Come from Away story and historic aviation, railway, logging and archeology displays.
The Department of Industry, Energy and Technology provides support to organizations by way of non-repayable contributions for projects aimed at supporting economic development, innovation and capacity building in all regions of the province.
The Regional Development Fund is comprised of the Regional Development Program and Community Capacity Building program. These two components provide a wide array of services and financial support to non-profit organizations, including industry associations, municipalities, public educational institutions and other non-profit groups including co-operatives and economic development organizations.
